Frank Anthony Iommi, better known as Tony Iommi was born on February 19, 1948, in Birmingham, England. Known today as one of heavy metal parents, Tony lived in the Aston district of Birmingham, the English city with many factories and consequently with many workers fighting for their labor claims. It was a time of many protests and street fights organized by gangs, Tony saw and participated actively.
How did Italian descent, was very fond of music and decided to dedicate himself to guitar studies to try out the "bad way", the confusion and protests. While studying guitar, Tony also worked in a sheet metal factory in Birmingham where a press ended up cutting the upper phalanges of two fingers of his right hand. Despair "hit", for what Tony wanted most in life was playing guitar and how it was handed felt would never again touch and in fact that's exactly what the doctors told! It was then that a friend of Tony showed him a Django Reinhardt record, a Belgian and gypsy musician who had also suffered an accident and who played "a lot", just with two fingers! Tony is excited about the history and creativity begins to use "caps" on the fingers of packaging "cut off" to play his guitar ..
fingers of Tony Iommi:
The first band known that Tony played was called The Rest and it was her who got to know the drummer Bill Ward. The two decide to mount the Mithology band, which later was renamed Rare Bread. At this time, in response to a newspaper ad for a band that was looking for a guitarist and drummer Tony and Bill are presented and there are John Michael (Ozzy) Osbourne (old school disaffection) and Geezer Butller, forming the band Polka Tulk Blues Band actually the embryo of heavy metal. The name did not fit much with the sound and once again they change, this time changing its name to Earth. They start doing shows in England playing for very little money and a lot of fun, actually the simple pleasure of playing.
In this period Tony left the band to play at the previously unknown group Jethro Tull, a single performance of Song for Jeffrey, in particular the Rolling Stones Rock & Roll Cirkus. Soon after Tony back to Earth and as already existed another group with the same name they are forced to move, this time definitively, to Black Sabbath. The inspiration for the name came from the title of an Italian horror film.
With the "ridiculous" amount of 600 pounds and in three days they record the first album called Black Sabbath in 1969. Success was immediate: the disc was in the top ten of the UK charts, with The Beatles and The Who!
The sequence of Black Sabbath was a series of successful albums that became classics of heavy metal rock, mainly characterized by riffs and master Tony Iommi guitar solos.
First live performance:
Your soil can be melodic or very aggressive, tend to jazz or the blues, has an indisputable and admirable technique, but without a doubt they have much "feeling", perhaps due to their influences as Jimi Hendrix, Muddy Waters , Count Basie, Joe Pass, John Coltrane, Django Reinhardt, Peter Green and many others. A fine example that is worth hearing are the two soils music Lonely is the world, the album Heaven and Hell, which conveys a lot of feeling, technique, agility and aggressiveness.
And his riffs as spoken? Well, Tony Iommi is known as the "King of the Riffs," which are at least bright, accurate, creative and unforgettable! How can I forget the breakneck pace of Paranoid music and the strong and tight marking War Pigs, both the Paranoid album?
Tony Iommi, besides being faithful and never left Black Sabbath, has released two solo albums: the first in 2000 called Iommi and has ten tracks with guest appearances on vocals by David Grohl, Billy Corgan, Phil Anselmo, Henry Rollins and, of course, Ozzy Osbourne. The second solo album came out in 2005 and is called Fused, has Glen Hughes on vocals (ex-Deep Purple) and Kenny Aronoff on drums.
Tai, Tony Iommi, great guitar player, great fighter, carried the Black Sabbath back in the most difficult moments of the band and remains in the "active" getting it on in the riffs and guitar solos over the world!
